The Embassy of India in Denmark organised a Kathak dance recital at the iconic National Museum in Copenhagen on August 18, 2017 to celebrate India’s 70 years of Independence. The Kathak dance troupe, led by the legendary Guru Geetanjali Lal, choreographed the dances. The other dancers were Ms. Himani Arya, Ms. Geeta Bhatt, Mr. Avinav Mukherjee and Mr. Dheerendra Tiwari. The event was attended by Ambassadors and members of the Diplomatic Corp in Denmark, Danish Foreign Office officials, prominent Danish nationals from different walks of life including artists and prominent members of the Indian Community. The 300 strong crowd was enthralled by the scintillating performances by the Kathak dancers led by Guru Geetanjali Lal. The expressive abhinay and the breath-taking footwork took the audiences to a sublime level of enchantment. The icing on the cake was the delightful musicians Mr. Amaan Ali on Tabla, Mr. Ahsan Ali on Sarangi and the vocalist, Mr. Imran Khan. The solo rendition of Thumri by Mr. Imran Khan based on Raag Kirwani and some elements of Bhairavi was soul stirring. The spectacular event ended with a thunderous 5 - minute standing ovation.

The Kathak troupe also performed in Aarhus at the prestigious Town Hall, mesmerising the audience there as well. The Indian Embassy will be organising many such events marking India’s glorious 70 years of Independence.
