Press Release: Bihar Diwas celebrated in Denmark on 21 March 2025


Embassy of India, Copenhagen celebrated Bihar Diwas on 21 March in Copenhagen. This was the very first time when Bihar Foundation Day was celebrated in Denmark. Participants were from Bihar and Jharkhand diaspora but also friends of India and Bihar in Denmark. 

Ambassador of India Shri Manish Prabhat in his welcome address reminded the participants that the time has come to form a network of Bihar’s diaspora in Denmark and the Nordic countries so that world renowned green and clean technologies from Denmark could be exported to Bihar in Bihar’s own green transition, energy production from agricultural waste, clean water and smart cities. Renowned scientist and Denmark’s only Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Awardee Prof Ramjee Prasad who hails from Gaya, recounted Bihar’s glorious history and culture and called upon the Indian diaspora in Denmark to work for more academic and research cooperation between universities of Denmark and Bihar.

A presentation made available by the Industries Department, Govt. of Bihar on new schemes and Special Economic Zones launched by the Govt. of Bihar to attract investment in Bihar and the encouraging results of the Bihar Connect conference 2024 was shown at the event. Dr. Rajat Pandey, Denmark-based biochemical engineer and innovator made a presentation on the need to bring innovative approaches to the problems of wholistic development of Bihar. Denmark-based journalist and columnist Mr. Mrutyuanjai Mishra who writes extensively in the Danish and Indian media spoke about the need to bring Bihari diaspora together in the Nordic countries. Ms. Richa Dubey, entrepreneur with extensive experience in the food processing industry gave a presentation on plans to introduce makhanas (fox nuts) from Bihar in the Nordic market.

Mr. Sanmit Ahuja, Director, Climate and Energy Transition Finance Initiative (CETFI) who was on a visit to Denmark spoke of his work relating to Bihar Economic Development Alliance (BEDA) and the need to focus on three core sectors of Bihar’s greatest potential – sustainable advanced agriculture, tourism and bio-energy and hydrogen. Navmarg, a Bihar startup's pioneering work on tackling arsenic pollution in water in Bihar was also shown in a documentary. 

The event ended with Kathak and folk songs and dances from Mithila presented by Ms. Tripti, Ms. Anjali, Ms. Deepshikha and her students. Volunteers had prepared Bihar’s celebrated delicacy – litti and chokha which all present relished. 

As part of India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership and the enabling presence of highly talented and skilled 21,000 plus Indian diaspora, the event focused on potential of Bihar which could be facilitated with the support of Bihar’s diaspora in Denmark.
